Denmark Day 4 - Monkey Rock and Elephant Bay

A quiet morning! Blue skies and wall to wall sunshine set us in the mood for a walk, so we decided to find, and climb to, Monkey Rock. Sheila and Alan had told us of this place and the views to be seen so we determined that today was the day.

Firstly we took a detour up McLeod Road to the Cheese Farm. The selection was stunning, as were the number of cheeses available to be tasted. After much testing we decided on three to be taken back to the Jeffs homestead, Feta, an Australian Chedder and a beautiful, sloppy, brie like blue. We both were looking forward to eating them with Mick and Betty, and washing them down with the (very passable) Australian Port that we had bought!

From there we followed the road down the hill to Denmark and through the other side, towards the ocean. It seemed to take us a long time but we eventually found the car park near to the rock.

It took us a while, and a long climb, but we did eventually reach the top, and if you look at the pictures above you can get just a glimpse of the views that we were rewarded with.

From there we went down to Lights beach, and we could see along the wave battered coast. The beaches look extremely spectacular with the rollers coming in off the Southern Ocean, one after another.

Later we managed a side trip to Elephant Rocks (photographs to come later) with it's incredible rock formations. From certain angles it looks as though there is a herd of pachyderms heading towards the beach!. It is a very beautiful and other-worldly place and well worth the effort to visit if you ever get to this part of the world.
